Rebranded in 2026 as Franco Patent Law, the patent and trademark practice was founded in 1994 as Law Office of Louis J. Franco in Boston by its namesake principal, Lou Franco. For over 30 years, Franco Patent Law has focused on providing expert domestic and international patent and trademark services.
Franco Patent Law welcomes clients from all over the United States and abroad. Lou Franco, Principal

Lou Franco is a highly experienced patent and trademark lawyer. He is licensed to practice by the Massachusetts Bar, and nationally by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Lou graduated from Fordham University in 1990, where he double majored in Physics and Philosophy, and earned his Juris Doctorate in 1993 from Indiana University School of Law.
In addition to his lifelong curiosity in all things scientific and inventive, Lou is an experienced instructor and lecturer, having served at various times as a teacher and lecturer in mathematics, physics, history, and law. His teaching experience includes a decade as an adjunct law school professor of patent, trademark, and copyright law at the Massachusetts School of Law in Andover, Massachusetts. He has also presented extensively to the research & development and management personnel of numerous corporations, and to the general public throughout New England.
Lou has dedicated himself for many years to volunteerism and elected office. Education is of particular importance to Lou. In this capacity, he has served since 2013 on the Board of Trustees of Applewild School, an independent, coeducational day and junior boarding school in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Additionally, he served for three years as a parent tour guide for prospective students and their families at Concord Academy in Concord, Massachusetts.
Among his elected offices, Lou served for 11 years on the Board of Assessors in Lunenburg, Massachusetts. He also served for 3 years, until 2024, on the Lunenburg Select Board. While a member of the Select Board, Lou and one of his Select Board colleagues coauthored what became Massachusetts Session Law (Acts of 2024) Chapter 333, An Act Authorizing the Town of Lunenburg to Establish a Means Tested Senior Citizen Property Tax Exemption. This Act was signed into law by Governor Maura Healy on January 6, 2025.
